About the role
Responsibilities
- Use computer-assisted engineering design software to prepare engineering plans and documents, with an emphasis on surface modeling.
- Prepare and modify design criteria, plans, specifications, reports, and opinions of probable costs.
- Coordinate design elements including roadway design, traffic engineering, environmental mitigation, structural design, and drainage design.
- Assist in establishing design-fee budgets, estimating, scoping, and marketing strategies for proposed projects.
- Create and manage project schedules, prioritizing multiple tasks to meet deadlines.
- Instruct and mentor junior engineers, designers, and technicians.
- Ensure project team quality system tasks are followed according to company manuals.
- Coordinate design engineering assistance during the construction phase, including responding to RFIs and reviewing shop drawings.
- Coordinate with municipal and SDDOT clients to meet budget, schedule, and quality goals on smaller projects.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from an accredited four-year college or university.
- 5 to 10 years of transportation engineering experience, including roadway, highway, and interchange design.
- Proficiency in MicroStation InRoads/OpenRoads and/or AutoCAD Civil 3D.
- Engineer in Training (EI) certification is required.
- Ability to multi-task several projects while staying on budget and schedule.
- Strong communication skills for writing reports and presenting information to clients and the public.
- Ability to travel for work-related tasks.
Preferred Qualifications
- South Dakota Professional Engineer (PE) license or the ability to obtain one via reciprocity.
