About the role
Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive support services for students with intellectual disabilities to ensure appropriate accommodations and community integration.
- Serve as a liaison between students, secondary transition counselors, instructors, and academic advisors for the Comprehensive Transition and Postsecondary (CTP) program.
- Assist students in developing self-advocacy skills, time management, and independence within the college environment.
- Identify and arrange academic support services, adapted educational methods, and assistive technology to meet individual student needs.
- Monitor student progress and act as an advocate and troubleshooter when challenges arise.
- Facilitate workshops and provide information to students, parents, faculty, and staff regarding disability-related needs and available services.
- Coordinate student schedules, oversee data collection, and ensure internal compliance with program requirements and policies.
- Collaborate with external community agencies and specialized resources to support student transitions.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in social and human sciences, rehabilitation, or special education.
- Minimum of three years of work experience in rehabilitation, counseling, or a related field.
- Extensive knowledge of college systems, policies, and campus resources.
- Understanding of a wide range of disabilities and their academic, vocational, and social impacts.
- Knowledge of appropriate accommodations, classroom adaptations, and assistive technology.
- Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent organizational, prioritization, and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of disability-related laws, including the ADA and Section 504.
- Demonstrated commitment to exceptional customer service and student advocacy.
- Experience in creating and sustaining inclusive and accessible environments.
