Traffic Engineer

Responsibilities

• Analyze and compile transportation and traffic data to support planning and engineering decisions
• Perform traffic operations studies using industry-standard tools such as Synchro/SimTraffic, VISSIM, and Aimsun Next
• Conduct traffic impact studies, signal evaluations, intersection improvement reviews, and safety assessments
• Prepare technical reports and present findings to clients, agencies, and stakeholders
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and support public meetings and consultations
• Provide mentorship and knowledge-sharing to junior colleagues

Requirements

• Post-secondary education in Civil or Transportation Engineering from an accredited institution
• PEO licensing in Ontario
• 3–5 years of professional experience in traffic engineering, including travel demand forecasting and operations analysis
• Proficiency in traffic simulation modelling (Aimsun Next, VISSIM, Synchro/SimTraffic, SYDRA, or ARCADY)
• Experience with travel demand modelling (EMME, TransCAD)
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for presenting complex technical concepts

Preferred Qualifications

• Programming skills in VBA, Python, or C# for developing modelling tools and automation
