About the role
Responsibilities
- Set up, maintain, and remove temporary work zones for construction sites, including warning signs, traffic cones, stop/slow paddles, and barricades
- Perform traffic control flagging using signs, hand signals, and flag signals
- Communicate with coworkers to ensure vehicles and pedestrians do not pose a danger to employees or the public
- Inform drivers of detour routes and alert crews when approaching vehicles fail to heed signals
- Maintain and repair traffic control devices in all assigned work zones
- Operate company vehicles and other work equipment as required
- Follow proper protocols and traffic requirements as discussed with the crew leader or supervisor
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- One year of experience in setting up traffic control
- Valid driver’s license with a good driving record (must remain insurable under company coverage)
- Ability to perform regular physical manual effort, including lifting up to 50 pounds
- Ability to work in various outdoor environments, including construction sites and street environments, regardless of weather conditions
Preferred Qualifications
- Flagger Certification
- IDOT work zone traffic control certification
- Competent Person designation on the job site
