Traffic Control Specialist

Responsibilities

• Set up, maintain, and remove temporary work zones for construction sites, including warning signs, traffic cones, stop/slow paddles, and barricades
• Perform traffic control flagging using signs, hand signals, and flag signals
• Communicate with coworkers to ensure vehicles and pedestrians do not pose a danger to employees or the public
• Inform drivers of detour routes and alert crews when approaching vehicles fail to heed signals
• Maintain and repair traffic control devices in all assigned work zones
• Operate company vehicles and other work equipment as required
• Follow proper protocols and traffic requirements as discussed with the crew leader or supervisor

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED equivalent
• One year of experience in setting up traffic control
• Valid driver’s license with a good driving record (must remain insurable under company coverage)
• Ability to perform regular physical manual effort, including lifting up to 50 pounds
• Ability to work in various outdoor environments, including construction sites and street environments, regardless of weather conditions

Preferred Qualifications

• Flagger Certification
• IDOT work zone traffic control certification
• Competent Person designation on the job site
