Trade Commissioner

Responsibilities

• Lead NZTE’s presence across Guangzhou and Hong Kong, driving strategy and execution across the Greater Bay Area and Mainland China.
• Work with the regional team to set and deliver clear market strategies that drive export growth.
• Lead a customer-focused operating rhythm to deliver meaningful outcomes for New Zealand exporters.
• Build strong partnerships across NZ Inc and the Consulate-General network to strengthen New Zealand’s trade presence.
• Cultivate purposeful networks to connect businesses, people, and opportunities.
• Communicate market impact and complex dynamics back to New Zealand through compelling insights.
• Foster a cohesive, high-performing team across both office locations.

Requirements

• Proven leadership capability with the ability to influence and align teams both in-person and remotely.
• Strong commercial acumen to identify customer needs and translate them into prioritized action.
• Ability to operate with autonomy and sound judgment across two distinct markets.
• Strong strategic alignment skills and the ability to communicate clearly with stakeholders.
• Exceptional networking and community-building skills.
• Highly collaborative approach to working across different functional teams.
• New Zealand citizenship is required.
• Ability to obtain a National Security Clearance.
• Willingness to travel regularly to Hong Kong.

Preferred Qualifications

• Proficiency in Cantonese or Mandarin is advantageous, though language training will be provided.
