About the role

Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular inspections of tracks, beds, and right-of-way to identify defects
  • Replace or repair rails, anchors, spikes, ballast, ties, and other track components
  • Assist in unloading and moving track materials and equipment from rail cars or trucks
  • Operate heavy equipment such as excavators or trenchers for digging tasks
  • Maintain track beds by clearing vegetation, brush, dust, or snow
  • Drive company vehicles as required for job duties
  • Adhere to all company, industry, and Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) safety regulations

Requirements

  • Minimum of 21 years of age
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record
  • Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class A or Class B
  • Ability to pass a Physical Ability Test (PAT)
  • Ability to meet FMCSA medical requirements for commercial drivers
  • English language proficiency (must pass an English assessment)
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting up to 65 lbs and pushing up to 119 lbs

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience operating heavy construction or farm equipment
  • 1 or more years of experience in Railroad Maintenance of Way work
  • Experience working in a construction-type setting
  • Welding experience or a welding certificate
  • Willingness to work on-call, overtime, and various shifts including weekends and holidays
