About the role

Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough inspections of railroad tracks, track beds, and right-of-way to identify defects
  • Perform repairs and replacements of rails, anchors, spikes, ballast, and ties
  • Handle, unload, and move track materials and equipment from rail cars, carts, or trucks
  • Execute track maintenance tasks and installations, including operating heavy equipment
  • Maintain track beds by removing vegetation, brush, dust, or snow
  • Adhere to all company, industry, and Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) safety rules and regulations

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Valid driver's license
  • Proficient verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to pass a Physical Ability Test (PAT)
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 65 lbs and push/pull up to 119 lbs
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and perform physically demanding tasks

Preferred Qualifications

  • Possession of a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class A or Class B
  • Experience in construction, welding, or operating heavy equipment
  • Previous experience in Railroad Maintenance of Way work
  • Willingness to work on-call, overtime, and various shifts including weekends and holidays
  • Permanent residence within a 50-mile radius of the hired location
