About the role
Responsibilities
- Handle, unload, and move track materials and equipment from rail cars, carts, or trucks
- Remove and replace rails, rail anchors, spikes, ballast, ties, and other components
- Inspect tracks, track beds, and right-of-way for defects or problems
- Maintain track beds by cutting vegetation and clearing dust or snow from movable parts
- Operate company vehicles and heavy equipment as required
- Adhere to all company, industry, and Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) safety rules and regulations
Requirements
- Must be 21 years of age or older
- Possession of a valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record
- Ability to successfully complete an English proficiency assessment
- Ability to pass a Physical Ability Test (PAT)
- Ability to lift and carry up to 65 lbs and push/pull up to 119 lbs
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks including bending, stooping, kneeling, and climbing ladders
- Willingness to work in outdoor environments and diverse weather conditions
Preferred Qualifications
- Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) - Class A or Class B
- Minimum of one year of experience in Railroad Maintenance of Way work
- Experience operating heavy construction or farm machinery
- Proficiency in welding or possession of a welding certificate
- Experience working in construction-like environments
