About the role

Responsibilities

  • Handle, unload, and move track materials and equipment from rail cars, carts, or trucks
  • Remove and replace rails, rail anchors, spikes, ballast, ties, and other components
  • Inspect tracks, track beds, and right-of-way for defects or problems
  • Maintain track beds by cutting vegetation and clearing dust or snow from movable parts
  • Operate company vehicles and heavy equipment as required
  • Adhere to all company, industry, and Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) safety rules and regulations

Requirements

  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Possession of a valid driver's license and a reliable driving record
  • Ability to pass an English proficiency assessment
  • Ability to pass a Physical Ability Test (PAT)
  • Capacity to lift and carry up to 65 lbs and push/pull up to 119 lbs
  • Ability to work in diverse weather conditions and remote geographic areas
  • Must have reliable personal transportation

Preferred Qualifications

  • Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) - Class A or Class B
  • Minimum of one year of experience in Railroad Maintenance of Way work
  • Experience operating heavy construction or farm machinery
  • Proficiency in welding or possession of a welding certificate
  • Experience working in outdoor construction environments
