Northwood is a modern space infrastructure company bringing the benefits of space to the masses through advanced communications technology. We are building a global network of phased array ground stations that enable real-time, reliable communication for satellite missions such as national security, global connectivity, and disaster response.

Responsibilities

  • Own the design and delivery of production tooling from initial concept through deployment
  • Partner with engineers and technicians to develop solutions that improve quality, speed, and safety
  • Build quick prototypes and mature designs into robust, documented equipment
  • Bring up automated production equipment including sensor integration, actuators, and PLC logic
  • Troubleshoot tooling and equipment issues including mechanical failures and control logic
  • Create CAD models, detailed drawings, BOMs, and maintenance documentation
  • Work with internal teams and external vendors to fabricate and source custom tooling
  • Drive continuous improvement by reducing cycle time and improving ergonomics

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, manufacturing engineering, mechatronics, or equivalent
  • 3+ years of experience designing or supporting tooling, fixtures, or automation equipment
  • Strong mechanical design fundamentals including tolerances and material selection
  • Experience with CAD and drawing release workflows
  • Hands-on experience building and debugging hardware in a shop or lab environment
  • Working knowledge of electromechanical systems, pneumatics, and sensors
  • Familiarity with automation concepts like PLCs and HMIs
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret Security Clearance
  • Ability to work extended hours and weekends as needed

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with PLC platforms such as Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or Beckhoff
  • Experience with robotic dispensing, machine vision, or precision alignment systems
  • Experience designing lifting, rigging, or ergonomic handling equipment
  • Background in aerospace, satellite, or industrial automation production
  • Familiarity with machine guarding and equipment safety standards
