Tool & Model Maker 1

Responsibilities

• Produce high-precision manufacturing tooling, specialized handling devices, and mechanized tooling to support new technologies
• Fabricate special production parts, prototype equipment components, and development models requiring extreme accuracy
• Work to tolerances of .00002 or closer using various machine tools
• Set up and operate machine tools to fabricate complex development hardware
• Determine machining methods and sequences, then assemble, adjust, and debug tooling and equipment
• Collaborate closely with engineering, tool designers, and manufacturing personnel to clarify design specs and optimize for form, fit, function, and cost
• Select appropriate materials based on knowledge of material qualities and heat treat techniques

Requirements

• Associate's degree or equivalent apprenticeship/education
• 1-2 years of related experience in tool or model making
• Advanced technical skills and knowledge of advanced manufacturing technologies
• Specialized knowledge of mechanical drawing, design, and advanced shop mathematics
• Ability to interpret complex technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form
• Understanding of physical sciences, including the properties of various metals and plastics
