Tool and Die Maker

Responsibilities

• Plan and perform the fabrication and repair of all types of dies, die sets, and similar devices
• Layout simple dies from prints or sketches, completing any missing information from part drawings
• Operate various machine shop tools including lathes, mills, shapers, drill presses, and grinders
• Use precision measuring instruments such as gauges, calipers, micrometers, and height gauges to work to tolerances of .0005 inch
• Maintain a clean, orderly, and unobstructed work area and machine
• Perform heavy lifting and physical tasks including twisting, bending, squatting, and kneeling in confined surroundings

Requirements

• Journeyman Card and completion of a recognized apprenticeship program
• Minimum of six years of tool and die making experience
• Proficiency with machine shop equipment including lathe, mill, and jig borer
• Experience with TIG welding
• Strong command of shop mathematics, including trigonometry
• Ability to interpret complicated blueprints
• High School diploma or GED and related vocational schooling
• Ability to work mandatory overtime, including 6-7 days per week as required
