Tool and Die Maker

Responsibilities

• Plan and perform the fabrication and repair of all types of dies, die sets, and similar devices
• Layout simple dies from prints or sketches, completing any missing information from part drawings
• Operate various machine shop equipment including lathes, mills, shapers, drill presses, and jig borers
• Utilize precision measuring tools such as gauges, calipers, micrometers, and height gauges to work to tolerances of .0005 inch
• Perform TIG welding as required for fabrication tasks
• Maintain a clean, orderly, and unobstructed work area and machine

Requirements

• Journeyman Card required
• Completion of a recognized apprenticeship program
• 6-8 years of experience in tool and die making
• Proficiency with machine shop equipment (lathe, mill, shaper, drill press, etc.)
• Strong command of shop mathematics, including trigonometry
• Ability to interpret complicated blueprints
• Physical ability to lift heavy materials and work in confined surroundings
• Ability to work mandatory overtime, including 6-7 days per week as required
