Thermal-Hydraulics/Safety Analysis Lead

Responsibilities

• Lead thermal-hydraulic modeling and comprehensive reactor safety analyses for SMR and advanced reactor designs
• Perform accident and transient analyses in accordance with NRC guidance (10 CFR Part 50 and Part 52)
• Develop, validate, and maintain thermal-hydraulic codes using RELAP5, TRACE, CATHARE, or STAR-CCM+
• Prepare, review, and defend safety analysis reports (SAR/FSAR) and technical submittals to the NRC
• Respond to NRC requests for additional information (RAIs)
• Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior and mid-level engineers
• Coordinate with reactor physicists, mechanical engineers, and system designers to ensure integrated safety analyses

Requirements

• Master’s or PhD in Nuclear Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
• 7+ years of experience in nuclear reactor thermal-hydraulics and safety analysis
• Proficiency with system-level codes such as RELAP5, TRACE, CATHARE, or STAR-CCM+
• Strong understanding of NRC regulatory requirements and licensing processes
• Proven experience performing transient, accident, and safety margin analyses for LWRs or advanced reactors
• Excellent technical communication and ability to author safety analysis reports

Preferred Qualifications

• Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in Nuclear or Mechanical Engineering
• Experience with SMRs, advanced reactors, or non-light water reactor concepts
• Familiarity with probabilistic risk assessment (PRA) and uncertainty quantification (UQ)
• Experience with experimental thermal-hydraulic facilities
• Direct experience in NRC licensing interactions
