Thermal Engineer – System Engineering

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of thermal component Design Release Engineers (DREs) to develop overall thermal architecture and component selection
• Interface with powertrain, power electronics, and vehicle integration teams to optimize thermal component packaging
• Benchmark competitive thermal components to define functional targets and engineering specifications
• Work with suppliers on design evaluation and validation of thermal management system hardware
• Coordinate and conduct hardware testing in the lab to verify functionality and reliability
• Develop and execute tests for analytic model verification against real-world results
• Manage refrigeration cycle, refrigerant plumbing, compressor, and condenser design
• Provide input for component specification and component DFMEA

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited University
• 5-10 years of experience in thermal management systems for HEV, PHEV, or EV
• Knowledge of refrigerant, coolant, airflow, and high voltage components
• Experience with 1D, CFD, and CAE modeling
• Experience with automotive systems design, packaging, and assembly requirements

Preferred Qualifications

• Advanced degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering specializing in refrigerant cycle, thermal dynamics, or fluid mechanics
• Hands-on experience with refrigerant components, sensors, valves, and fluid transport design
• Experience in heat pipe application
• Thermal system component or vehicle-level testing experience
• In-plant or vehicle launch experience
• Supervisory experience
