Theater Technician: Costume Shop

Responsibilities

• Build costumes according to design specifications and evaluate designs to determine best practices
• Execute costume construction projects in a timely manner to meet production deadlines
• Support day-to-day operations in the costume shop under the direction of the Technical Supervisor
• Oversee student workers, assign projects during work calls, and provide guidance on construction techniques
• Maintain work areas, supplies, and equipment while upholding safe shop operations and procedures

Requirements

• High school or vocational school education (or equivalent combination of coursework in costume/theater arts)
• Two years of experience in draping, pattern making, and stitching
• Proficiency operating industrial and domestic sewing machines, surger, and overlock machines
• Ability to use dye vats, craft tools, and steam/hi-boil irons
• Ability to lift up to 30 lbs and work in a fast-paced environment
• Strong communication skills and ability to maintain data in computerized formats

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in theater or a related field
