About the role
Responsibilities
- Conduct daily JaiaBot deployments and test missions from the Bristol, RI waterfront facility across varied sea states.
- Execute structured test plans and adapt in real time to changing builds and environmental conditions.
- Own quality control for the JaiaBot fleet, ensuring vehicles meet performance and reliability standards.
- Develop and refine QC procedures, checklists, and acceptance criteria for mechanical, electrical, and software systems.
- Identify, diagnose, and resolve hardware, sensor, and software issues during field operations.
- Write detailed technical test and QC reports to provide actionable feedback to the engineering team.
- Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to support bench-level validation and system integration.
Requirements
- Undergraduate degree in engineering, oceanography, marine technology, or a related field (or equivalent hands-on experience).
- 3–6 years of experience operating, maintaining, or testing ocean technology platforms (AUVs, ROVs, or similar).
- Proven field troubleshooting experience with the ability to diagnose hardware and sensor issues in the field.
- Experience with marine sensor suites, including IMUs, GPS, pressure transducers, or acoustic systems.
- Strong technical writing skills for producing clear, structured, and actionable engineering reports.
- Ability to work outdoors in varied weather and sea conditions.
- Eligibility to obtain security clearance and ability to verify work authorization in the United States.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting defense, commercial, or research maritime programs.
- Familiarity with ROS, Python, or basic software debugging in a robotics context.
- USCG boating safety certification or small-vessel handling experience.
- Background in fast-iteration hardware prototype environments.
- Knowledge of formal QC/QA frameworks (ISO, MIL-SPEC) or environmental testing for subsea systems.
