About the role
Responsibilities
- Feed and water animals daily or as specified by protocols
- Perform daily census of animals and change caging as scheduled
- Clean animal rooms daily and maintain facility cleanliness
- Assist in the routine treatment of common clinical signs
- Maintain accurate animal records and assist with breeding colony care
- Receive, transport, and distribute incoming animals following established procedures
- Operate and maintain support equipment including cage washers, autoclaves, and tunnel washers
- Monitor and report aberrations in animal room environments such as temperature, humidity, and ventilation
- Attend in-house training programs to develop expertise in laboratory animal science
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalency certificate
- Technical training or approximately six months of related experience
- Ability to regularly lift at least 25 pounds and frequently move up to 50 pounds
- Ability to stand for extended periods of time
- Availability to work a Thursday through Monday schedule, including mandatory rotating weekend and holiday coverage
- Ability to work in an environment with exposure to laboratory animals, latex, waste products, and sanitation solutions
