About the role

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct project leadership on Electromagnetic Transient (EMT) power system studies, including developing methodologies and analyzing simulation results.
  • Oversee a team of engineers in executing studies for generation, transmission, and distribution levels, with an emphasis on HVDC and inverter-based resource (IBR) systems.
  • Manage client relations, business development activities, and the preparation of technical proposals and cost estimates.
  • Provide technical mentorship, guidance, and training to team members.
  • Lead research and development activities related to new technologies and innovative modeling/simulation techniques.
  • Represent the company in international organizations such as IEEE or CIGRE and contribute to technical papers and conferences.

Requirements

  • Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng or PE) is required.
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience as an electrical engineer, specifically focused on EMT studies for generation, transmission, renewable energy, and HVDC systems.
  • Expert-level proficiency in PSCAD and other EMT software applications.
  • Strong background in power system analysis software such as PSSE, PSLF, ASPEN, ETAP, or DIgSILENT.
  • Expert understanding of North American power systems and NERC TPL standards.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences.

Preferred Qualifications

  • MSc or PhD in Electrical Engineering.
  • Experience with static and dynamic modeling of HVDC converters, STATCOMs, and other power electronic devices.
  • International experience completing power system planning studies.
