Technical Lead - Compact Optical Systems & Sensing

Responsibilities

• Develop and refine prototype optical systems demonstrating performance and size advantages over conventional designs
• Translate lab-scale optical fabrication concepts into scalable, manufacturable processes
• Conduct early customer discovery to identify urgent pain points in target markets
• Collaborate with the venture team to shape go-to-market strategy and regulatory pathways
• Recruit and lead a founding technical team of engineers and scientists

Requirements

• PhD or Master's in Optical Engineering, Optical Science, Applied Physics, Electrical Engineering, or Materials Science
• Deep technical expertise in optics, photonics, or imaging systems
• Hands-on experience in optical design and system integration
• Familiarity with advanced technologies like gradient-index optics, computational imaging, or nanophotonics
• Experience with optical design tools and fabrication methods
• Entrepreneurial mindset with a track record in applied research or product development
• Strong communication skills for engaging with experts, customers, and investors

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior startup experience
• Experience in translational research
• Industry experience in optics or imaging
