Technical Lead, Backend

Responsibilities

• Define the architectural foundations of a backend system for civil aviation
• Solve core technical challenges regarding data fusion at operational scale
• Ingest and resolve disparate data streams from radar, flight plans, and weather systems
• Set and enforce design principles including strict module boundaries and clean abstractions
• Lead a small team of engineers while remaining hands-on from design through delivery
• Collaborate closely with product, platform, and domain experts

Requirements

• Experience building production-grade backend or distributed systems
• Proficiency in at least one modern programming language
• Experience with real-time or near-real-time data pipelines
• Experience with data integration, storage, processing, and modeling systems
• Experience with AWS and cloud-native architectures
• Experience leading small engineering teams of 3-8 engineers
• Ability to own systems end-to-end from design to production
• Track record of setting technical direction and driving execution
• High bar for engineering quality, reliability, and operational excellence

Preferred Qualifications

• Exposure to high-availability systems (e.g., "four nines" reliability)
• Proficiency in leveraging modern LLM tools for development
• Domain experience in aviation, mapping, or geospatial systems
