Technical Game Editor

Responsibilities

• Craft the language of Magic in partnership with fellow editors and the Rules Management team
• Ensure all cards and mechanics adhere to current philosophies and player understanding
• Help game designers refine mechanics and card designs through regular playtesting
• Partner with Worldbuilding and Game Design leads to align card names and flavor text with gameplay goals
• Proofread cards for text errors, layout inconsistencies, and typographical anomalies

Requirements

• 2+ years of professional experience in technical editing, game writing, or comparable work
• Mastery of the MTG Comprehensive Rules (Level 1 certified judge or equivalent expertise)
• In-depth knowledge of the Magic historical card catalog and card wording
• Strong proofreading skills and attention to detail
• Collaborative, flexible, and adaptable mindset

Preferred Qualifications

• Familiarity with Smartsheet, Microsoft Office, Adobe Suite (Acrobat, InDesign), or Confluence
• Experience judging Magic tournaments or events
• Bilingual in Japanese
