Tech Lead, Deployment & Operations

Responsibilities

• Lead a team responsible for deployment and operations of OpenAI’s custom silicon and systems in data center environments
• Own the path from hardware bring-up and validation through production deployment and sustained fleet support
• Partner with silicon, systems, software, infrastructure, networking, and supply chain teams
• Define deployment processes, operational playbooks, and reliability practices for new hardware platforms
• Drive cross-functional execution across lab bring-up, rack integration, and fleet monitoring
• Identify gaps in tooling, observability, and automation to improve deployment quality
• Establish metrics for deployment readiness, reliability, and operational health

Requirements

• 8+ years of engineering experience in hardware systems, infrastructure, data center deployment, or silicon bring-up
• Strong technical depth in hardware deployment, rack-scale systems, or systems validation
• Experience bringing complex hardware systems from development into production environments
• Experience with deployment planning, incident response, and root-cause analysis
• Proven ability to hire, develop, and lead senior technical talent
• Experience building tooling, automation, or observability for fleet reliability
• Ability to move between people leadership and hands-on operational problem solving
