About the role
Responsibilities
- Lead the Leave of Absence (LOA), Tuition Waiver (TW), Payroll Accounting Adjustment (PAA), and Payroll Reconciliation functional areas.
- Manage the hiring, training, coaching, and performance management of team members, including scheduling and work assignments.
- Drive business process improvements and optimize the utilization of Workday to enhance efficiency and customer service.
- Ensure compliance with federal and provincial legislation, union agreements, and University policies regarding payroll and benefits.
- Oversee complex financial processes, including monthly benefit withdrawals, mass data loads, and payroll-to-general-ledger reconciliations.
- Utilize data analytics and RPA (Robotic Process Automation) logic to improve audit processes and accounting functions.
- Collaborate with internal units such as IT, Finance, and HR to facilitate project deliverables and system enhancements.
- Develop and monitor internal controls to ensure the security and integrity of highly confidential information.
Requirements
- Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline.
- Completion of the CPA accounting program (CA, CGA, or CMA).
- Minimum of seven years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Proven leadership experience in managing staff and coordinating complex workflows.
- Extensive experience with large ERP systems.
- Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
Preferred Qualifications
- Direct experience working with Workday.
- Broad knowledge of payroll and benefits practices within a complex organizational structure.
- Experience in project management, including requirements gathering, testing, and change management.
- Ability to build reporting tools, performance indicators, and analytical models.
- Experience working within a complex academic environment.
