About the role

Responsibilities

  • Lead the daily care of livestock and maintain the upkeep of a 60-acre beef cattle facility.
  • Serve as an assistant and delegate to the Farm Veterinarian, following established animal care protocols and safety procedures.
  • Monitor animal health, document observations, and respond to emergencies or illnesses.
  • Manage farm inventories, including feed, bedding, supplies, tools, and equipment.
  • Maintain clean and orderly barns, stalls, fences, and paddocks.
  • Prepare the facility for student activities, courses, and laboratory sessions, including logistics and record-keeping.
  • Operate and maintain farm vehicles, implements, and equipment.
  • Develop and manage schedules and task lists for student workers to ensure consistent coverage.
  • Assist with medical tasks such as breeding, pregnancy checks, and neonate care as directed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least 1 year of experience caring for cattle or small ruminants.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Valid driver’s license (CDL is desirable).
  • Physical ability to lift 50 lbs and endure the rigors of outdoor labor.
  • Ability to work in extreme weather conditions and exposure to farm elements (sun, rain, snow, dust, etc.).
  • Willingness to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science, Veterinary Technology, Agricultural Technology, or a related field.
  • 3 years of verifiable equivalent work experience.
