About the role
Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and instruct four sections each semester of BIOL 1101H: Honors Foundations in Biological Inquiry as a scalable, semester-long Course-Based Undergraduate Research Experience (CURE).
- Provide direct instruction in laboratory techniques, experimental design, data analysis, and scientific communication for first- and second-year students.
- Mentor students through all stages of the research process, including hypothesis testing, experimental execution, and troubleshooting.
- Design and implement assessment strategies to evaluate student learning in scientific reasoning, quantitative literacy, and laboratory competency.
- Teach non-majors courses within the Marquette Core Curriculum, such as BIOL 1410 “Biology of Human Disease.”
- Work closely with graduate and undergraduate teaching assistants to support laboratory instruction and student mentoring.
Requirements
- Ph.D. in Biological Sciences or a related field.
- Nine years of college teaching experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in undergraduate teaching.
- Experience in curriculum development or research-based laboratory instruction.
- Ability to develop a CURE grounded in scholarly interests using available teaching lab resources (e.g., invertebrate model organisms, microbiology, or molecular biology).
