About the role

Responsibilities

  • Support teachers in providing a developmentally appropriate preschool program that meets the emotional, physical, intellectual, and social needs of children.
  • Interact with children to encourage active involvement in the learning process through various activities and materials.
  • Assist in daily preschool operations, including diapering, cleaning, nap time, and mealtime activities.
  • Help maintain a warm, inviting, orderly, and clean classroom environment.
  • Participate in the planning and implementation of lessons and activities based on developmental goals.
  • Assist with administrative tasks such as daily notes, newsletters, and maintaining student records (attendance, emergency info, etc.).
  • Maintain familiarity with state and city regulations, including Mandatory Reporter requirements.
  • Support the director with administrative duties such as bookkeeping and updating mailing lists.

Requirements

  • Associate or Bachelor's degree in early childhood education or a related field.
  • Minimum of 6 credit hours in early childhood education and/or development.
  • At least one year of experience working with young children.
  • Must meet DCFS Early Childhood Teacher qualification requirements.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite, internet, and email applications.
  • Ability to lift preschool-aged children.
  • Physical ability to stand, climb, crawl, and kneel.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for interacting with children, parents, and staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and respect racial and ethnic diversity.
