Teaching Artist

Responsibilities

• Write and deliver custom art and design curricula that blend requested subjects with your own artistic practice
• Report to work sites prepared with necessary supplies at least 15 minutes before class begins
• Coordinate with CAP administrative staff to procure appropriate supplies in a timely manner
• Complete and submit attendance, photos, paperwork, and timesheets promptly
• Document and submit student artwork for potential exhibition consideration
• Maintain clean teaching spaces and represent CCS professionally within the community

Requirements

• Practicing artist with a demonstrable portfolio, exhibitions, or relevant education
• Experience in teaching (formal or informal) or working within community programs
• Availability to work during after-school hours (weekdays, roughly between 2pm and 7pm)
• Reliable personal transportation for travel to various Detroit-area sites
• Proficiency with Google Workspace (Email, Drive, Sheets, Docs) and WhatsApp
• Ability to navigate and work effectively in Detroit neighborhood schools, community centers, and churches

Preferred Qualifications

• Multilingual skills, specifically in Arabic or Spanish

The College for Creative Studies (CCS) is a nonprofit, private college located in midtown Detroit. Through the Community Arts Partnership (CAP), CCS collaborates with local organizations to provide art and design education to youth and families, fostering skill development, self-expression, and social-emotional learning across the Detroit community.
