About the role
Responsibilities
- Design and integrate robotic tactile perception subsystems, including force/torque sensors, actuators, and embedded controllers
- Own mechanical system design for sensor integration using CAD, focusing on mounts, cable management, and environmental protection
- Develop PCB schematics for sensing and embedded control boards, including power and signal conditioning
- Develop embedded firmware for data acquisition, calibration, and streaming via SPI, I2C, UART, or CAN
- Create and execute test plans to characterize sensing performance such as noise, drift, and repeatability
- Debug hardware and firmware issues using lab instrumentation like oscilloscopes and logic analyzers
- Build and maintain lab setups, automation scripts, and test fixtures to accelerate data collection
Requirements
- MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, Mechatronics, or a related field
- Strong foundation in robotics, mechatronics, or system integration
- Experience with embedded systems and firmware development using C/C++
- Hands-on experience collecting and analyzing sensor data
- Proficiency with lab characterization and debug equipment (oscilloscope, logic analyzer, DMM)
- Working knowledge of PCB schematic capture and mechanical CAD
Preferred Qualifications
- Research or project experience in robotics manipulation, force control, or tactile perception
- Understanding of controls and estimation fundamentals (PID, sensor fusion, Kalman filters)
- Experience with sensor interfaces such as strain gauges, load cells, and IMUs
- Proficiency in Python or MATLAB for analysis and test automation
- Familiarity with ROS/ROS2
