Systems Engineer II - ATS

Responsibilities

• Support the development, testing, and deployment of the STARS air traffic control system at the FAA’s William J. Hughes Technical Center.
• Perform hardware engineering, software development, and technical documentation tasks.
• Provide on-site support, troubleshooting, and software testing to ensure system reliability.
• Develop compliance artifacts and acceptance documentation to verify system requirements.
• Collaborate with hardware and software teams to meet project costs and schedules.
• Create system enhancements and bug fixes to improve air traffic management capabilities.

Requirements

• STEM degree (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics) and a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience, or an Advanced Degree in a related field.
• Experience working in Linux environments.
• U.S. citizenship is required for access to program information.
• Ability to obtain a US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior experience in Air Traffic Control, Airspace/Aircraft Services, or Technical Operations.
• Knowledge of Layer 2 and 3 networking (VLANs, STP, routing protocols).
• Hands-on experience with network hardware (Cisco, Juniper, Extreme, etc.).
• Programming skills in C, C++, Python, or modeling tools like MATLAB.
• Experience with configuration management tools such as Jira, Jenkins, Git, or Bitbucket.
• Experience with Red Hat Linux and cloud-based systems/containers.
