About the role
Responsibilities
- Own and evolve the compute infrastructure, including on-premise Slurm/Ray clusters and hybrid cloud environments (GCP and AWS).
- Drive architectural improvements to capacity, scheduling efficiency, and throughput for GPU and research workloads.
- Manage high-performance storage systems (e.g., VAST) to ensure fast, reliable data access.
- Design and maintain provisioning systems, CI/CD infrastructure (GitHub Actions), and developer toolchains.
- Serve as a technical leader and architect for infrastructure decisions, providing mentorship to junior engineers.
- Diagnose and resolve complex, low-level system issues across the stack.
Requirements
- 10+ years of experience in systems engineering or infrastructure.
- Deep Unix/Linux expertise across multiple distributions.
- Strong experience with HPC grid systems (SLURM preferred) in research or scientific computing environments.
- Experience managing bare-metal infrastructure and data centers.
- Familiarity with high-performance or parallel storage systems (VAST, GPFS, Lustre, etc.).
- Fluency in scripting and automation using Bash or Python.
- Ability to operate as an independent technical leader and communicate clearly with stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with distributed compute frameworks such as Ray, Dask, or Spark.
- Low-level systems programming in C/C++ with a focus on performance.
- Experience with GPU computation and instrumenting workloads for ML/research.
- Hands-on experience building and operating autoscaling compute clusters on GCP.
- Strong networking fundamentals and experience troubleshooting complex topologies.
- Background working in trading, finance, or research-intensive organizations.
