System Safety Engineer, Autonomy Trucking

Responsibilities

• Derive and manage safety concepts, requirements, and specifications for autonomy software and hardware for the L4 SDS product line
• Lead efforts for the development of safety architecture
• Perform safety analyses such as FMEA, FTA, and STPA to derive relevant safety work and products
• Work with verification and validation teams to ensure requirements are verified throughout the development process
• Contribute to the overall safety case of the final product
• Promote a culture of safety within the organization through training and guidance
• Monitor and report on safety performance and implement continuous improvement measures

Requirements

• 2+ years of experience in a System Safety Engineering or Functional Safety Engineering role
• MS/BS degree in Computer Science, Electrical, Mechanical, or Systems Engineering
• Expertise across mechanical, electrical, and software engineering disciplines
• Experience with ADAS, autonomous systems, and robotics
• Knowledge of automotive industry standards including ISO 26262, ISO 21448, ISO/DPAS 8800, and UL4600
• Experience driving safety requirements across the V model from architecture to implementation and validation
• Strong collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams and customers

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior professional work in autonomous vehicles or ADAS
• Understanding of safety metrics and how to tie evidence to a safety case
• Project management and leadership experience within the AV industry
• Experience specifically regarding the safety of Machine Learning (ML) systems
