System Safety Engineer

Responsibilities

• Develop and own machine-level safety cases for autonomous mining vehicle deployments and driverless operations
• Design and execute hazard identification and risk assessment activities, including HAZOP, System FMEA, and Functional Failure Analysis
• Derive Machine Safety Requirements (MSRs) for critical systems such as brake-by-wire, steer-by-wire, and autonomous motion control
• Analyze hazardous machine behavior and fault propagation paths to identify necessary prevention and mitigation measures
• Collaborate with systems, controls, autonomy, and hardware teams to ensure safety requirements are implemented and verified end-to-end
• Support validation strategies, field testing, and safety acceptance criteria for machine-level demonstrations

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, or a related technical discipline
• 3+ years of system safety experience with a primary focus on ISO 26262 Part 6
• Hands-on experience developing system-level safety analyses and artifacts for complex electromechanical systems
• Strong expertise in HAZOP, FMEA, safety requirement derivation, and risk assessment
• Solid understanding of vehicle and machine control systems, including braking, steering, propulsion, and hydraulics
• Proven ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary engineering teams to implement safety requirements

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with automotive functional safety (ISO 26262 Part 4, HARA, FSC/TSC) or ADAS/autonomous driving systems
• Familiarity with requirements management tools such as JAMA, DOORS, or Polarion
• Working knowledge of industrial safety standards like ISO 19014, ISO 13849, or IEC 62061
• Experience in mining, construction, agriculture, or heavy equipment industries
• Background in OS, device drivers, or platform-level safety
