About the role
Responsibilities
- Define system requirements from user needs and operational concepts
- Design system and system-of-systems architectures aligned with open standards like PYRAMID or FACE
- Develop, deploy, and validate software systems on autonomous vehicles, focusing on robotics, sensors, and vehicle autopilots
- Lead the development of system engineering models and artifacts to capture key design decisions
- Participate in hands-on fieldwork to deploy and troubleshoot software in dynamic, real-world environments
- Collaborate with Perception and Autonomy teams to optimize perception pipelines and vehicle autonomy software
- Leverage simulation environments to validate software behavior before field deployment
- Address inter-vehicle communication to ensure seamless data exchange for collaborative operations
Requirements
- MS or PhD in Robotics, Aerospace, Electrical, or Computer Engineering (or 5 years of relevant experience in multi-agent autonomy)
- Strong proficiency in Linux and command-line tools
- Strong proficiency in Python and/or C++
- Hands-on experience with robotic systems, sensors (RADAR, cameras), and vehicle autopilots
- Knowledge of communication protocols such as DDS or ROS 2
- Experience with industry standards like PYRAMID, FACE, ARP 4754A, or DO-178C
- Ability to work in field environments and travel as required (up to 50%)
- Ability to obtain and maintain UK security clearance
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working on safety-critical systems in the defense or aerospace sectors
- Experience working directly with customers or operators in field-based environments
- Proven ability to document complex processes and communicate technical concepts to cross-disciplinary teams
