System Administrator

Responsibilities

• Support and maintain the Citizen Lab's computer and network systems, providing technical support to researchers and contractors.
• Monitor the performance and integrity of servers and cloud SaaS applications.
• Troubleshoot networking, server, and system issues, including running diagnostics and performing minor equipment repairs.
• Conduct detailed analysis of system performance to inform management decision-making and generate diagnostic reports.
• Ensure high security standards by adhering to strict protocols for device security and data protection.
• Manage system access, configuration, and compliance following established guidelines.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Minimum three years of experience in a complex networked research computing environment.
• Proficiency with macOS, Windows, and Linux (including Ubuntu, Debian, and Arch).
• Strong networking knowledge, including TCP/IP, DNS, VPNs (e.g., WireGuard), and VLANs.
• Experience with Google Workspace administration and security features.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation.
• Understanding of cryptography concepts, including digital signatures and public/private key management.
• Experience with fleet management or orchestration tools (e.g., Ansible, Puppet) and containerization (e.g., Docker).
