About the role

Responsibilities

  • Provide confidential, trauma-informed crisis intervention, counseling, and advocacy services to survivors of gender and power-based violence.
  • Offer immediate aid, psychoeducation, and support services to alleviate safety and trauma concerns.
  • Participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation, providing emergency response at campus locations, hospitals, or law enforcement agencies as needed.
  • Manage ongoing individual cases, including assessment of long-term needs and coordination of appropriate referrals.
  • Provide criminal and civil justice advocacy, including accompaniment for police reports, forensic medical exams, and court proceedings.
  • Serve as a liaison between survivors and various stakeholders, including Title IX staff, social services, and community organizations.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential records and statistical data in compliance with New York Public Health Law.
  • Foster culturally inclusive services to support diverse and marginalized student populations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of three years of related experience in victim/survivor advocacy, crisis intervention, or crisis counseling.
  • Formal training in sexual assault and intimate partner violence response.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the criminal justice system and emergency department protocols.
  • Ability to remain calm and professional when handling graphic, sensitive, or high-stress emergency situations.
  • Ability to work a non-traditional schedule, including a mandatory 24/7 on-call rotation and frequent evening/weekend hours.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills with a high level of organizational detail.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a relevant field.
  • Familiarity with NYC service providers and campus-specific reporting and adjudication options.
  • Knowledge of Title IX, VAWA/Clery Act, and legal procedures related to victim services.
  • Experience working within a complex higher education environment.
