Surgical Representative

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary staff liaison for surgery patients from the initial physician recommendation through the completion of surgery.
• Provide financial planning and support to patients and physicians to facilitate surgical scheduling.
• Verify patient eligibility and benefits, and obtain necessary pre-authorizations for surgical procedures.
• Review surgical procedures with doctors to provide CPT and ICD coding recommendations.
• Utilize HCPCS codes to secure authorizations for medically necessary items such as nutritional supplements or medications.
• Communicate with registration desks, utilization management, nurses, and medical directors to secure required clinical documentation.
• Track the status of pending pre-certifications and pre-authorizations and keep providers informed.
• Inform prospective patients of insurance coverage, financial responsibilities, and establish payment plans as necessary.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• 5 years of experience performing a full range of clerical support services.
• Proficiency in medical terminology.
• Experience identifying and using ICD-10 and CPT codes.
