About the role

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a technical leader and champion for microanalysis and surface science within multi-disciplinary R&D teams.
  • Collaborate with global teams to develop composition, structure, process, and property relationships.
  • Develop and scout new analytical methods, tools, and expertise to solve energy industry challenges.
  • Utilize and grow internal analytical capabilities while managing external partners and 3rd party labs.
  • Provide subject matter expertise for established testing methods and guide research toward effective solutions.
  • Communicate research results through internal and external channels, including seminars, publications, and patents.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. (or equivalent experience) in Materials Science, Physics, or a related field, with a focus on microanalysis or surface science.
  • Hands-on expertise operating microanalysis or surface science tools such as XPS, ToF-SIMS, SEM, EPMA, TEM, FIB, or AFM.
  • Fundamental understanding of electron, ion, and x-ray interactions with materials and analytical hardware.
  • Proficiency in image analysis, statistical analysis, and programming skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in industrial R&D, manufacturing support, or product qualification.
  • Experience maintaining and troubleshooting complex analytical instruments.
  • Proven track record of professional presentations, publications, and/or patents.
  • Ability to integrate surface science with complementary methods like optical spectroscopy, x-ray scattering, or thermal analysis.
  • Experience working specifically with carbon and hydrocarbon-based materials.
