Supply Base Engineer

Responsibilities

• Identify, qualify, and onboard suppliers meeting technical and quality requirements
• Develop and support partnerships with Japanese suppliers
• Act as the primary technical interface between engineering teams and suppliers
• Monitor supplier performance through KPIs including quality, delivery, and cost
• Partner with Quality Engineers to establish standards, inspection criteria, and audit plans
• Lead root cause analysis and corrective action efforts for supplier issues
• Collaborate with US SBE and Supply Chain teams to identify risks and develop mitigation plans
• Support Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) and manage supplier transitions

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field
• 6+ years of experience in supplier quality, supply base engineering, or sourcing
• Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes such as machining, sheet metal, and assembly
• Proficiency with quality tools including PPAP, FMEA, SPC, 8D, and CAPA
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills
• Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 30%
• Fluency in English and Japanese

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with optical systems or precision metrology systems
• Working knowledge of PLM, ERP, or MRP systems
• Lean Six Sigma certification or experience with lean manufacturing principles
