About the role

Responsibilities

  • Manage a team of anchors, producers, and editors, overseeing daily operations across broadcast and digital platforms.
  • Coordinate Newscast editorial planning and lead the team during weekend shifts.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Producer to develop and implement editorial and operational strategies.
  • Coach, mentor, and direct team members to ensure high-quality journalistic output.
  • Manage hiring, onboarding, and the professional development of staff.
  • Maintain administrative operations, including work schedules and training.
  • Act as a liaison to desks and member stations regarding the strengths of NPR News Now.
  • Cultivate and promote diversity, equity, and inclusion within the workplace.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience managing direct reports in a journalism newsroom or operation.
  • At least 10 years of experience creating journalism content as an editor or producer.
  • At least 12 years of experience in daily news production.
  • Proficiency in audio, digital, and video production.
  • Strong project management skills and the ability to meet tight deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise solid, independent news judgment.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience.
  • Ability to work an on-site schedule in Washington, D.C., including Wednesday through Sunday shifts.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in editorial innovation, such as launching new products or projects.
  • Proficiency in multiple formats, including radio, video, digital text, and podcasting.
