About the role
Responsibilities
- Manage a team of anchors, producers, and editors, overseeing daily operations across broadcast and digital platforms.
- Coordinate Newscast editorial planning and lead the team during weekend shifts.
- Collaborate with the Executive Producer to develop and implement editorial and operational strategies.
- Coach, mentor, and direct team members to ensure high-quality journalistic output.
- Manage hiring, onboarding, and the professional development of staff.
- Maintain administrative operations, including work schedules and training.
- Act as a liaison to desks and member stations regarding the strengths of NPR News Now.
- Cultivate and promote diversity, equity, and inclusion within the workplace.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of experience managing direct reports in a journalism newsroom or operation.
- At least 10 years of experience creating journalism content as an editor or producer.
- At least 12 years of experience in daily news production.
- Proficiency in audio, digital, and video production.
- Strong project management skills and the ability to meet tight deadlines.
- Demonstrated ability to exercise solid, independent news judgment.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience.
- Ability to work an on-site schedule in Washington, D.C., including Wednesday through Sunday shifts.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in editorial innovation, such as launching new products or projects.
- Proficiency in multiple formats, including radio, video, digital text, and podcasting.
