Legal Services NYC (LSNYC) fights poverty and seeks racial, social and economic justice for low-income New Yorkers. As the largest civil legal services provider in the country, LSNYC provides legal services to help clients meet basic needs for housing, income, family stability, and more.
Responsibilities
- Shape the direction of the Housing Unit in collaboration with the Director and co-supervisors
- Develop and strengthen relationships with partner community-based organizations
- Handle administrative and grant responsibilities
- Identify systemic housing-related trends for strategic litigation
- Supervise the representation of tenants in housing court, administrative proceedings, affirmative litigation, and appeals
- Help develop and file affirmative litigation
- Co-counsel complex cases
Requirements
- Admission to the New York State Bar
- Minimum of 3 years of experience providing civil legal services to low-income people or comparable experience
- At least 2 years of experience in housing, landlord/tenant, or related advocacy
- Excellent analytical, writing, and communication skills
- Strong organizational skills and ability to supervise a high-volume caseload
- Excellent leadership skills
- Demonstrated commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging issues
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior supervision experience
- Strong cultural or personal ties to the communities served
- Fluency or proficiency in Spanish, a Chinese dialect, or other languages prevalent in the community
