Summer Student Intake Worker

Responsibilities

• Provide trauma-informed, client-centered support and crisis intervention for women and children fleeing gender-based violence.
• Complete intake interviews, assessments, and necessary documentation for clients entering the shelter.
• Conduct risk assessments and develop safety plans for clients.
• Offer practical supports including referrals for housing, legal, counseling, and health needs.
• Support children and youth through trauma-informed care and activity planning.
• Maintain accurate and confidential client activity logs, case notes, and service statistics.
• Assist with summer programs, including camp coordination and therapeutic activities.

Requirements

• Enrolled in or completion of a post-secondary program in Social Work, Psychology, Women’s and Gender Studies, Child and Youth Work, or a related field.
• Knowledge of trauma-informed, anti-oppressive, and harm reduction frameworks.
• Strong crisis intervention, risk assessment, and case management skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and documentation systems.
• Current CPR/First Aid Certification.
• Ability to provide a Vulnerable Sector Screening.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a commitment to confidentiality.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working with survivors of gender-based violence, intimate partner violence, or marginalized populations.
