Summer Student (Clinical Data Intern)

Responsibilities

• Systematically extract, transfer, and input patient demographics, medical histories, and clinical notes from legacy databases into OpenEMR
• Handle highly sensitive Protected Health Information (PHI) with strict adherence to HIPAA regulations and confidentiality protocols
• Conduct routine data verification and quality assurance checks to ensure data integrity and correct any discrepancies or duplicates
• Navigate multiple software platforms and dual-monitor setups to cross-reference patient information
• Maintain daily logs of migration progress and report technical roadblocks or data anomalies to the project supervisor
• Assist with digital file organization, scanning, and attaching documents to correct patient charts

Requirements

• Exceptional keyboarding skills with a minimum typing speed of 65+ WPM and high accuracy
• High computer literacy and technical aptitude for learning new software and navigating complex databases
• Strong attention to detail to ensure the accuracy of critical medical records
• Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and best practices for handling sensitive personal data
• Ability to meet daily data-entry quotas in a fast-paced environment
• Strong written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior experience working with OpenEMR or other Electronic Health Record (EHR/EMR) systems such as Epic, Cerner, or Athenahealth
• Previous experience in data migration, data cleansing, or database transition roles
• Familiarity with basic medical terminology
