Substitute Teacher

Responsibilities

• Cover lead teacher classes during absences, including implementing lesson plans, delivering presentations, and grading assignments
• Maintain a classroom culture of high expectations and high support
• Plan and prepare effective implementation of research-based curriculum
• Use assessment data to refine curricula and instructional practice
• Build strong relationships with scholars, families, and colleagues
• Participate in weekly coaching, professional development, and data-driven team reflection
• Support scholars' social-emotional well-being and positive classroom culture
• Foster active citizenship through age-appropriate current events discussions and community service
• Engage in whole-school events such as transitions, family conferences, tutoring, and other duties as assigned

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree required (transcripts requested during onboarding)
• Unwavering commitment to the Democracy Prep mission of college success and civic engagement
• Ability to hold scholars to high behavioral and academic expectations through high support
• Self-reflective teammate dedicated to antiracism and contributing to diversity, equity, and inclusion
• Flexible across multiple content areas with quick relationship-building skills
• Data-driven approach to instructional decisions and accountability
• Deep content-area expertise with strong differentiation and lesson planning skills
