Substitute Nurse (RN)

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership and health services within an assigned campus in the absence of the regular Nurse (RN).
• Render first aid and emergency care for sick or injured students and staff.
• Plan, coordinate, and conduct student screening procedures, including referrals and follow-up activities.
• Administer medication in accordance with district policy and legal guidelines.
• Maintain accurate and complete clinic records, including immunization data and emergency treatment records.
• Interpret health information and policies for teachers, students, parents, and medical professionals.
• Supervise and train LVNs, Nurse Aides, and other designated school staff in clinic procedures.
• Establish plans of care for medically fragile children.
• Maintain confidentiality of all medical information.

Requirements

• Graduation from an accredited professional nursing education program.
• Current Texas RN license issued by the Board of Nurse Examiners.
• Ability to practice within the limits of the Texas Nurse Practice Act and American Nurses Association standards.

Preferred Qualifications

• Minimum of two years of nursing practice, preferably in a public school or public health setting.
• Current CPR certification.
• Certification in vision, hearing, and spinal screening.
