About the role

Responsibilities

  • Install, commission, test, and maintain protective relaying equipment in substations
  • Perform functional testing on control circuits for relay panels, transformers, and circuit breakers
  • Develop and execute relay macros and testing routines to verify protection scheme integrity
  • Conduct end-to-end relay testing using relay test software and analyze performance based on fault types
  • Review relay settings and logic equations to ensure alignment with system protection designs
  • Create, review, and execute substation equipment isolation and restoration switching procedures
  • Investigate electrical issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions
  • Interpret protection and control schematic and wiring diagrams to identify errors or inconsistencies

Requirements

  • Minimum of 1 year working in a substation environment (3+ years preferred)
  • Hands-on experience with protective relays (480V up to 345kV) including SEL, GE Multilin, or Siemens
  • Proficiency in relay test software such as AcSELerator
  • Skilled in troubleshooting distribution control circuits and SCADA communication systems
  • Strong understanding of electrical theory, circuits, and trigonometry
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and wiring diagrams
  • Knowledge of industry standards: NEC, NESC, OSHA, NFPA, and NERC
  • Valid Driver's License required
  • Physical ability to work in confined spaces, extreme weather, and lift up to 50 lbs

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Electrical or Electronic Sciences
  • Completion of a Substation or Relay Testing Apprentice Program
  • NETA Level 3 or Level 4 certification
  • CDL-A license
  • Experience with transformer monitoring systems
