Substation Operator

Responsibilities

• Execute safe and controlled substation switching and isolation operations
• Implement and enforce Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures for safety compliance
• Investigate relay trips and perform fault analysis
• Conduct troubleshooting and maintenance on breakers, transformers, relays, and control systems
• Coordinate substation re-energization with remote operators and field crews
• Perform routine inspections and monitoring of substation equipment
• Respond to unplanned outages and assist in emergency restoration
• Maintain accurate documentation of switching operations and maintenance activities

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent
• 3+ years of experience in substation operations, electrical maintenance, or power distribution
• Proficiency in LOTO and substation switching procedures
• Ability to read and interpret single-line diagrams, control schematics, and relay settings
• Knowledge of high-voltage electrical systems and safety standards (NFPA 70E, NERC, OSHA)
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
• Ability to lift up to 34kg (75lb)
• Ability to work in cramped spaces, on ladders, and in extreme weather conditions

Preferred Qualifications

• Post-secondary education in electrical or mechanical fields
• Technical certification in electrical systems or power distribution
