Substation Electrician

Responsibilities

• Install, test, calibrate, and repair protective relays, regulator control devices, and power transformer safety devices
• Maintain and repair 4160V, 12kV, and 34kV power circuit breakers and transformers
• Perform substation high-voltage switching operations and periodic trip testing
• Troubleshoot and calibrate computer-based SCADA systems, transducers, and communication equipment
• Sample and evaluate insulating oil and other media, maintaining accurate records for DGA and dielectric tests
• Test and repair distribution system equipment including capacitors, regulators, and ATS systems
• Perform infrared scanning of substation transmission and distribution equipment
• Assist with the design, programming, and maintenance of PLC functions

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED equivalency
• Completion of an accredited Trade School or apprenticeship program
• Experience with solid state circuitry and computer-based test equipment
• Experience with control, monitoring, and analysis systems and associated tools
• US Citizenship required to obtain and maintain a security clearance

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of electrical theory, control relaying, and protection relaying
• Familiarity with NFPA 70E and OSHA electrical safety regulations
• Experience using bench test equipment such as TTR, Megger, and AC/DC Hipot
