About the role

Responsibilities

  • Provide one-on-one substance use counselling and facilitate group programming to support client recovery.
  • Assess new clients to determine substance abuse needs and create individualized recovery plans.
  • Assist with the onsite supervision of clients residing in the Community Residential Facility (CRF).
  • Support client reintegration by identifying goals, devising exit plans, and providing referrals to community agencies.
  • Maintain accurate client interaction notes, session records, and required documentation in secure databases.
  • Monitor client behavior, curfews, and compliance with house rules to ensure a safe environment.
  • Perform casework duties including intake, discharge procedures, and regular resident status checks.
  • Liaise with the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC), police, and other community partners.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Criminology, Social Work, or a related field.
  • 1–3 years of related experience, preferably in a correctional or justice system setting.
  • Criminal Record Review Program clearance.
  • Ability to obtain Correctional Service Canada (CSC) enhanced security clearance.
  • Knowledge of 12-step recovery principles.
  • Ability to work in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside within a 24/7 social services facility.
  • Willingness to undergo training in Naloxone administration, First Aid/CPR, and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention.

Preferred Qualifications

  • ICADC Certification.
  • Specialized CSC training (e.g., Risk Management or Sex Offender Management).
  • Lived experience with 12-step recovery programs.
  • Experience working with individuals experiencing homelessness, mental health challenges, and addiction.
