About the role

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a master-level authority on aircraft structural integrity and materials science
  • Bridge the gap between high-level engineering and practical, flight-line repair reality
  • Instruct unique aeronautical engineering courses to USAF Company Grade Officers
  • Act as the Senior Subject Matter Expert to the ABDRE program leadership
  • Support ABDRE Chief and Site Leads to ensure engineering calculations and courses are executed safely and efficiently
  • Apply research and development findings to the operational feasibility of repairs to impact warfighter readiness

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
  • 15 years of documented experience as an ABDR, Structural, or Composites Engineer
  • Mastery of Aircraft Structural engineering and Advanced Composites
  • Extensive knowledge of Metals Technology and Non-Destructive Inspection (NDI)
  • 5 years of experience teaching aviation-related engineering courses
  • Proven experience developing aerospace engineering or ABDRE curriculum
  • U.S. citizenship is required due to federal research contract requirements
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
  • 1-year tour as an ABDRE instructor within AFLCMC/EZ8
  • 8 years of experience as a USAF officer
  • Eligibility for an Active Secret Clearance
  • Experience with multiple airframes (e.g., F-16, F-35, C-130, KC-135)
